What some who haven’t looked at the colonization of North America, fail to connect is that the system we have here was adopted from our colonial past, and the empire. The fact that a lot of the marginalized in society also are poor tends lead to the mixing of the ideas. There is bigotry and prejudice and misogyny, I would never deny that, but the system generally does not have barriers that discriminate on anything other than financial status. The conflation of that very real and already studied barrier, with racism is doing both injustice and robbing efforts to resolve either by taking the conversation into basically an unsolvable place.
In other words they are more barriers to keeping the poor, poor, and the wealthy, wealthy. For me when I think of the systemic barriers in place in our society, I think of them as inequity barriers. The unfortunate thing is sometimes I find people are losing the art of communication, and I mean that at all levels.
